Environmental Professionals Survey 2017

In January 2017, the Society launched its first survey of its registered environmental professionals to find out more about the experience, knowledge and opinions of this diverse group of experts.

The survey was administered online and distributed to registered environmental professionals with the help of the Society’s 24 Licensed Bodies. It closed on 7th May 2017 and collected a total of 644 responses.

Some headline findings that we’re particularly happy and proud to report include:

  • An increase in female registrants, contributing towards evening up our overall balance
  • A majority (of 61.9%) of respondents believe that their professional registration is valued by their employer
  • And a huge 82.7% of respondents felt they had a positive impact on the environment in their role

“With sustainability permeating every aspect of life, environmental professionals are incredibly diverse, and their opinions and experiences varied and unique. This survey has been designed to map the skills, experience, expertise and knowledge of registered environmental professionals, to ensure that the Society is well placed to highlight the value of registrants to employers and decision-makers.”

Dr Emma Wilcox, CEO of the Society for the Environment

Beyond digging into views around registration, we also asked our survey respondents their views on topical issues. The report provides snapshots of opinions about Brexit just as the dust was settling after the EU membership referendum as well as related matters, such the global co-operation and regulation.
