Post-Brexit Fisheries Letter Sent to Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

The Environmental Policy Forum (EPF) has sent a letter to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Michael Gove MP, highlighting the Institute of Fisheries Management (IFM) position statement on post-Brexit fisheries. 

The IFM position statement includes areas of concern for a post-Brexit Britain, such as fisheries legislation, research and development, fish health and marine fisheries. The IFM also express that they welcome the opportunity to offer valuable contributions in consultations affecting fisheries going forwards. The letter and position statement can be found below. 

The EPF is a network of UK environmental professional bodies promoting environmental sustainability and resilience for the public benefit. The EPF’s member bodies have a collective membership of around 60,000 environmental professionals – many of whom are individually chartered in environmental practice, science and engineering disciplines. The Society for the Environment is a member body and assisted with this letter.

Since the letter was sent, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has announced that the government will withdraw from the London Fisheries Convention. For more information, please click here
